addendum 3
definitions:
gold (n.) “precious metal noted for its color, luster, malleability, and freedom from rust or tarnish,” Old English gold, from Proto-Germanic *gulthan “gold” (source also of Old Saxon, Old Frisian, Old High German gold, German Gold, Middle Dutch gout, Dutch goud, Old Norse gull, Danish guld, Gothic gulþ), from PIE root *ghel- (2) “to shine,” with derivatives denoting gold (the “bright” metal). For Latin aurum see aureate. Greek khrysos probably is from Semitic. source Etymology Dictionary
silver (n.) “rare white metal, harder than gold, softer than copper, valued for its luster and malleability,” Middle English silver, from Old English seolfor, Mercian sylfur, Northumbrian sulfer, “the metal silver; silver coin, money,” from Proto-Germanic *silabur- (source also of Old Saxon silvbar, Old Frisian selover, Old Norse silfr, Middle Dutch silver, Dutch zilver, Old High German silabar, German silber “silver; money,” Gothic silubr “silver”), which is of uncertain origin. (represented by Latin argentum; see argent) source Etymology Dictionary
commerce (n.) 1530s, “social intercourse;” 1580s, “interchange of goods or property, trade,” especially trade on a large scale by transportation between countries or different parts of the same country, from French commerce (14c.), from Latin commercium “trade, trafficking,” from com “with, together” (see com-) + merx (genitive mercis) “merchandise” (see market (n.)). source Etymology Dictionary
national (adj.) “of or pertaining to a nation or a country regarded as a whole; established and maintained by the nation; peculiar to the whole people of a country,” 1590s, from French national (16c., from Old French nacion), and also from nation + -al (1). Opposed to local or provincial (or in the U.S., state).Meaning “peculiar or common to the whole people of a country” is by 1620s. From 1802 as “established and maintained by the nation or its laws.” As a noun, “citizen of a (particular) nation,” from 1887. Related: Nationally. source Etymology Dictionary
citizenship (n.) “status, rights, privileges, and responsibilities of a citizen,” 1610s, from citizen + -ship.
private (adj.) late 14c., “pertaining or belonging to oneself, not shared, peculiar to an individual only;” of a thing, “not open to the public, for the use of privileged persons;” of a religious rule, “not shared by Christians generally, distinctive;” from Latin privatus “set apart (from what is public), belonging to oneself (not to the state), peculiar, personal,” used in contrast to publicus, communis. This is a past-participle adjective from the verb privare “to bereave, deprive, rob, strip” of anything; “to free, release, deliver” from anything, from privus “one’s own, individual,” from Proto-Italic *prei-wo- “separate, individual,” from PIE *prai-, *prei- “in front of, before,” from root *per- (1) “forward.” The semantic shift would be from “being in front” to “being separate.”
